HINESAD Wins 2024 Texas Society of Architects Studio Design Award

Recognition for the African American Memorial at Bates M. Allen Park

HINESAD is proud to announce that the African American Memorial at Bates M. Allen Park in Kendleton, Texas, has been awarded the 2024 Studio Design Award by the Texas Society of Architects.

Selected by a distinguished jury, the memorial was recognized for its powerful conceptual clarity, cultural resonance, and architectural ambition. Designed as a space of remembrance and healing, the memorial honors the lives and legacies of African Americans in Fort Bend County—including those impacted by slavery and the convict leasing system—through landscape, monumentality, and community-rooted design.

This award acknowledges the dedication of the full project team, including consultants, county leadership, and local stakeholders. For HINESAD, it affirms the belief that architecture can serve as a tool for justice, memory, and transformation.
